Description
The above is a photo of an early smallsword also known as a pillow sword mounted on our extra light blades. The example has a cross guard only 3/16th by 3/16th inch square with a length of 6 inches, no knuckle guard, and small perforated shells. The shells in the main photo have the hearts and spades “mercenary” perforation pattern. An alternate photo shows an example of the Pappenheimer pattern. The Pas De Annes are large enough to allow one gloved finger on the ricasso. This example has a 34 3/4 inch blade to the shells, 36 3/4 inches to the cross guard, and weighs 21.5 ounces (610.5 grams). When necessary, we can reduce the weight of this blade even further by removing metal from the forte, but that will increase assembly time due to the extra grinding required.
