Description

The above is a photo of one of our simplest cruciform hilted swords. This design dates back to the middle ages. With a disk pommel, Oakeshott designates this as a type XVa sword, as above. These are available on our light extra wide flat tang blades and can have grips up to 8 inches long as in the photo above. These blades are approximately 2 inches wide at the shoulder of the tang and taper to approximately 3/8 of an inch at the blunt tip. This makes a blade which is flexible enough for thrust and parry fencing, while still being rugged enough for the more percussive side sword sparring. The overall blade plus tang length is 47 1/2 inches. 1 1/2 inches are required for the guard and pommel. The remaining 46 inches of length are available for the blade and grip. Therefore with a 41 inch long blade you can have a 5 inch long grip. Our hilts have a simple 9 inch long hand forged bar cross guard. Shorter cross guards are available on request.
