The crossbow we'll be building is of a common medieval design based on a 12th century original excavated at a castle in Norway.
Everyone involved will require a block of good wood for the stock.
This ought to be 1.5 inches thick, by 3 or more inches wide, by at least 32 inches long.
If you do not have such a piece of wood, there is a shopping cart button provided below for its purchase.
I'll be making a bulk purchase of red oak from Burton Hardwood Lumber in approximately two weeks.
Builders will also require a prod and at least one string.
I have provided a shopping cart button for these as well.
The plan is to cord bind the prods to the stocks an on the example in the above photo.
If you cord bind the prod you will also require a stirrup.
These may be purchased cut to shape.
Some people may want to instead use bow irons.
There is a button for these as well.
I'll be bringing a completed crossbow to the work sessions as an example of the finished product.
This is a simple design.
It ought to be possible to build a complete crossbow of this type in no more than three work sessions.
