Disability And Light Hilts

Description

This is our light rapier hilt & blade, with two finger ricasso. It weighs 1.2 pounds. The above are photos of our lightest hilts mounted on our new disability low weight blades. Over the past several years we’ve had requests for extra light blades for fencers with disabilities and other issues which required narrower blades with less mass. At this time these blades are available only in the straight version and only when mounted on one of our hilts. Blades may be ordered in lengths from 32 inches to 38 inches. The lightest weights are attained when the blade length is kept near 34 1/2 inches which was typical of most schlagers. The shorter blades also allow the use of lighter pommels. Length is measured from the tip of the blade to the front of the shells. The hilt in the photo to the left is available with a knuckle guard, or with the knuckle guard removed to further reduce weight. This hilt has a ricasso long enough for two fingers between the cross guard and shells. The middle photo shows an extra light blade mounted on our extra small rapier hilt. It has a cross guard only 3/16th by 3/16th inch square with a length of 6 inches, no knuckle guard, and small perforated shells. This example has a 34 3/4 inch blade to the shells, 36 3/4 inches to the cross guard, and weighs 21.5 ounces (610.5 grams). The hilt in the photo on the right is similar to the example in the middle, but with larger shells. When necessary we can reduce the weight of these blades even further by removing metal from the forte, but that will increase assembly time due to the extra grinding required. We can also mount these low weight blades on some of our other light hilts such as our smallsword, main gauche, & etc.
